NEWSPAPERSThe Roanoke Times, a daily newspaper serving the Roanoke metropolitan area and 17 surrounding counties, is distributed free of charge to patients' rooms upon request Monday through Friday. Weekend editions are available for purchase from our volunteers and are delivered to patients' rooms. Other local and regional newspapers are available for purchase near the Cafeteria entrance. PATIENT E-MAILHere's how it works. Send an e-mail on the form provided. Your e-mail will be sent to a printer located near our Volunteers' Desk. During our test run of this, we will only have one delivery route per day. At 1:00 p.m. (Eastern time), the e-mails will be printed off and delivered to the patients' rooms. There is no weekend delivery at this time. Messages sent to us after 1 p.m. Eastern time will be delivered the next day. Please keep in mind that this is the equivalent of sending a postcard - we cannot provide privacy or confidentiality. Click here to send an e-mail message to a Lewis-Gale Medical Center Patient. MAIL & FLOWERSVolunteers bring mail, flowers and other deliveries to your room throughout the day. Deliveries after patient discharge will be forwarded to their home. TELEVISIONColor television sets with cable accessibility are provided in each patient room. In addition, there are numerous educational programs that are broadcast on closed circuit (Channel 65). Please ask a nurse or another Patient Care representative for further information and assistance. TELEPHONESBedside telephones are provided so that patients may inform friends and family who wish to contact them. Local calls may be placed from hospital rooms by first dialing a "9", then the complete telephone number. To place a call within the hospital, dial the four-digit extension (the last four digits of the complete number). If you are unsure of the extension, please ask hospital personnel for assistance. No charge is made for local or in-house calls. Long distance calls may be placed through the hospital operator by dialing "0". These calls will be billed to the patient's home phone or credit card - whichever is preferred. MEALSLewis-Gale Medical Center provides room service dining to all patients and guests. It's called "At Your Request" and allows patients to order the meals they want -- when they want. There are no extra charges for patients to use "At Your Request" Orders may be placed any time between 7:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Meals are delivered within 45 minutes of the request. Visitors may also dine in the cafeteria, located on the first floor of the hospital. Cafeteria hours are: Breakfast: 7am - 9am A vending area is located in the cafeteria that is open around the clock. VISITORSVisiting hours for most patients are from 2 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Patients in critical care units have varied hours and may accept visitors on a less frequent basis. Please ask Patient Care personnel about visiting hours on your assigned unit. AREA ACCOMMODATIONS/RESTAURANTSWe realize that meeting the needs of patients' family and friends is an important part of our role in caring for patients. BANKING SERVICESFor the convenience of our patients and visitors, First Union Bank and the Virginia Tech Federal Credit Union both have automated teller machines (ATM's) on the first floor of the hospital. Both institutions are members of the "MOST" network, which allows persons to make transactions from almost any banking affiliation. PASTORAL CARE & OTHER COUNSELING SERVICES
Our Pastoral Care Department provides spiritual support and counseling on a 24-hour per day basis. Our Pastoral Care Coordinator, Reverend Will Iler, is board certified by the Association of Professional Chaplains. Contact Reverend Iler at william.iler@hcahealthcare.com. A request for clergy services can be made through a patient's doctor, nurses, and the hospital operator or by dialing the Chaplain directly at extension 4730. If a patient or family member wishes to have your clergy or church contacted, please ask a nurse to assist you.
RESPONDRESPOND, at 776-1100 (and 1-800-541-9992) is a free service of our Center for Behavioral Health, providing 24-hour crisis intervention. RESPOND's professionals offer assessments, assistance and referrals for patients and others who seek counseling and need help. |
